The reason that you need to mirror your design when working with heat transfer or iron on vinyl you cut the design on the back side of the vinyl.
For iron on however you want to mirror your design.

When working with heat transfer vinyl the shiny side of the material always goes face down for cutting this shiny side is called the carrier it covers the face the colored side that will face out on the garment of the htv and holds the cut pieces in alignment during cutting and applying.
Htv has a clear plastic carrier sheet that covers the top of the vinyl and the other side is where the heat sensitive adhesive is it is not sticky or tacky to the touch.

Go to your cut settings window and double check that you are set to cut with heat transfer vinyl smooth.
